What a performance by the team at FOrster! A total of 30 Gold, 10 Silver and 6 Bronze! All players took part in multiple divisions and events and SMASHED IT! Our team consisted of only 12 members (smaller than most years we attend), however there was no drop in impact as our team truly shone with all their skill and intensity!

The divisions we participated in were Poomsae, Pair and Team Poomsae, Breaking, Weapon Demonstration, Sparring and Self-Defence.

A special mention to our senior members Kern Sharma, Noah Grofski, Harrison Howard, Callum Ide and Joseph Mathias for helping Mr Justin all day to coach, score, referee and more.

Haidong Gumdo State Championships

Over the weekend, HDMA students took part in the FIRST EVER New South Wales Haidong Gumdo State Championships. It was fantastic to see our members out on the mat setting a great standard for our Haidong Gumdo program and displaying the skills that they have spent years working on.

This first competition focussed on four main disciplines, Gumbub (Patterns), Sparring, Paper Cutting and Sword Dance. This was also the first ever competition to pioneer the use of the Point Sparring system as compared to the currently used Continuous Sparring system.

All members participated in Gumbub, with the majority also taking part in the Paper Cutting event. Gerry Kain also represented HDMA in the sparring, where his match was so tightly contested, it proceeded to a fourth round Golden Point (in which the winner of the match is decided by the first point in the round). Gerry fought hard and came away with the victory.

In total, our members brought home 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 1 Bronze! We are looking forward to the next event!

Kenthurst Fair and NSW State Champiosnhips

A huge weekend for HDMA with two teams representing the club in different locations!

Mr Justin accompanied the HDMA Demonstration Team to the Kenthurst Pre-School Fair to put on a great show for the crowd. HDMA has been performing at the Fair for more than 5 years and it is always a crowd favourite! Both Junior and Senior members participated and really wowed the crowd! After the event, many people praised the organisers for our show and said it was a real standout and had the attention of the whole event! Well done to all involved.

Miss Yokk took a small contingent of Poomsae competitors to the NSW State Competition at the Sydney Olympic Park! Both Justine and Jack worked hard to prepare and represented themselves and the club very well, showing improvement and potential to improve even more. Justin earned a Silver in her Division, and Jack earned a Bronze. Well done to both players!

Competition Weekend!

Over the weekend, the HDMA Poomsae Team has been busy! TWO contingents of the team participated in two competitions in TWO different states and achieved some pretty impressive results.

Starting off on Saturday we had the Master's Games contingent. The Pan Pacific Master's Games is a competition for athletes all over the Pan Pacific area who are over 30 years old to represent their club in a wide variety of events. Taekwondo has been a part of these games for many years, and our participants did a fantastic job. The end result was Gold x2 and Silver x2 in Individual Poomsae, Gold in Team Poomsae and Gold in Team Demonstration.

Congratulations to Jutta Giggenbach, Justine Hauser, Jane Estrella and Alona Loria!

The local contingent attended the ASMA Spring Open in Liverpool. The competition was small but provided some invaluable experience for both experienced and rookie competitors.

Final tally was Gold x 2 and Silver x2 in Individual Poomsae and Gold in Pairs Poomsae.

Well done to Noah Grofski, Emily Seow and first timers Ankhita Sekhar and Grace Cavanagh!

Sydney Taekwondo Champioships

We had a great day at the Sydney Taekwondo Championships! Awesome effort from our Poomsae Team! We enjoyed participating at a local competition with a great environment. Our team was well prepared and showed a great team culture.

While many of our competitors were uncontested, they still showed a competitive spirit in trying to top their previous scores and the scores of other skilled athletes who participated in different divisions. The team showed a keen interest in the skills of more experienced players and a desire to learn more.

The team consisted of some seasoned players as well as a few novices participating in their first competition at this level. We hope to attend again with an even bigger team next year. Our players received numerous compliments on their skill levels. HDMA supported each member with our battlecry, and everyone knew when a Hills player was taking the mat.

Despite receiving some Uncontested Gold medals, our team deserved their results through their effort and attitude and we are proud of all of them!

The final result was: 9 Uncontested Gold, 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze.
