Hills District Martial Arts: Taekwondo, Haidong Gumdo & Hapkido

Getting The Best Results

People start Taekwondo and Martial Arts for a number of reasons. Taekwondo is a way of life and to make sure you get the best results from your training, we have a few tips for beginner and experienced Martial Artists!

I'm a parent and my child is training at HDMA

We need your help! In order to get the best results from our program, your child needs you to reinforce the same behaviour at home. How can you do this?

Home Environment - Help create a diciplined child by reinforcing our code of ethics at home! We are happy to contribute in any way possible with families looking to help their child become a more disciplined and respectful member of society.

Attendance - A few classes a week is not enough to raise a healthy child and great Martial Artist! Make sure you encourage a healthy diet and lifestyle at home.

Join up - Families that train together, grow together! Taekwondo is a great way to bond with your child over shared interest while also helping you get fitter, stronger and more healthy.

Set Goals and Reach Them - Taekwondo is a long term investment with long term goals and children can sometimes reach difficult periods where they lack motivation. It can become easy for both parents and children to want to take the easy way out and stop attending classes. BEFORE YOU DO THIS, remember that quitting can become a habit! If you and your child set a goal to reach Black Belt, teach them to honor their commitments and achieve their goals, especially through the difficult periods!

Most importantly, if you have any concerns or difficulties, PLEASE see one of our friendly instructors, we are always happy to help create a better and more effective learning environment.

I'm a teenager/adult training at HDMA

Taekwondo and Martial Arts training can be one of the most rewarding things you will take part of in your life! However there are a few things that will help you make the most of your training.

Train With Friends - Training and taking part in classes is always a lot more fun and effective when surrounded by people who encourage and inspire you. Join at the same time as a friend, invite a friend to come and join the club and make new friends in your class. HDMA is a friendly and encouraging environment.

Set Achievable Goals - Martial Arts is tailor-made for goal setting. Our syllabus is broken down into different categories to help you focus on what you need to learn for the next belt. Our belt system is also broken down into a colours and levels to help identify your next level. Set goals more effectively by writing them down, pinning them up on the wall or talking about them with others.

Train Regularly - The more classes you can do at HDMA per week, the further you can progress and improve. Make training a habit, and feature of your week.

Remain Dedicated - The older you get, the easier it is to find reasons NOT to train; School Exams and HSC, Work, Uni Classes and Exams, Family Commitments etc. These responsibilities don't go away over time! Make sure you don't stop training "just for now"! Make time for your classes as a part of your life, or you'll soon find you don't have any "me time"!

Most importantly, if you have any concerns or difficulties, PLEASE see one of our friendly instructors, we are always happy to help create a better and more effective learning environment.
